IS DANIELS SECOND COMING OF RGIII?

Just Stuff (… and not all sports) …

Don’t they ever learn. Commanders or Redskins … no matter

what The Washington Football Team is called … we can count

on them doing something incredibly off the wall, borderline

dumb or downright stupid … Now it appears they will call on

JAYLEN DANIELS to play this week. At least that was the

word from coach DAN QUINN … whose job could be in

jeopardy and presumably would’t mind risking the health of the

franchise quarterback if, somehow, he can turn the 1-3 team

around.

Don’t forget … Daniels suffered the same gruesome-looking

dislocated elbow that limited his playing time a year ago … and

left the Commanders with veteran MARCUS MARIOTA

under center. They finished under .500 after winning the

Eastern Conference the previous season … When Daniels re-

injured the same (left, non-throwing) arm in Game 2, there was

every reason to think the Commanders would keep him

sidelined as long as it took this time… perhaps for the entire

campaign. Better to sacrifice games instead of the franchise’s

first-round draft selection (2d overall) … and risk Daniels

becoming the incarnation of RGIII.

Wrong again, old-timer. With Mariota out indefinitely with a

leg injury suffered early in Sunday’s 30-13 loss to the Colts,

Quinn suggested Daniels could return this Sunday against the

New York Football Giants. Surely he was putting us on but

no-o-o … there was the wounded QB working with the first

team, wearing a bulky cast … and insisting he wanted to play.

Daniels is a gamer, after all.

Besides, with Mariota likely to be sidelined “for some time” …

and his replacement, rookie ATHAN KALIAKMANIS,

performed like you should expect from a seventh-round, 223d

overall draft selection. He wasn’t terrible but not good enough

to be asked to help the Commanders right their floundering ship

before it was too late to save the season.

Now it develops Quinn and Company considered using Daniels

in Week 4 against the Colts … Meanwhile, the Giants will be

without their best QB, JAXON DART, out for the season with

a knee injury suffered in Week 2 … which means journeyman

JAMEIS WINSTON will start for the third straight game,

with newcomer J.J. McCARTHY, obtained in a deal with

Minnesota, No. 2 … Oh, and several Giants were quoted as

saying they won’t take it easy with Daniels just because he’s

injured. In fact, they hope he will try to run, which Daniels

tends to do.

SPEAKING OF ... hard to believe … To hear most TV

“news” shows tell it, the mid-term elections are a lock for

the anti-Trump candidates (read: Democrats) to take over

the Senate, if not the House, too. After all, don’t the polls

(A) indicate the opposition is running scared because (B)

Trump’s “numbers” are very low, and getting lower?

Nice try … but don’t be surprised if Republicans score big

when ballots are counted. The pollsters keep getting it

wrong, especially when it comes to Trump, and – it says

here -- there is every reason to think even legitimate surveys

will miss the mark again.

FOR THE SECOND TIME this calendar year, ERLING

HAALAND has asked to be taken out of game while playing

for Norway’s men’s national soccer team … You might recall

he couldn’t make it to the end of quarterfinal loss to

England during World Cup 2026 … on a very hot, steamy

afternoon in Miami.

Sunday he “gestured toward the bench” that he needed to be

replaced in the 67th minute of a 2-1 upset loss to Porto … after

playing the full game in Norway’s first three Nations’ League

fixtures – a win over Denmark and losses to Portugal and Wales

… That, combined with a full schedule for Manchester City

that followed a heavy workload in the World Cup had left the

EPL’s leading scorer since joining City five years ago

apparently borderline exhausted.

“He was tired against Wales … and we had a heart-to-

heartconversation … and went over possible options,” NMNT

coachSTALE SOLBAKKEN was quoted as saying …

Although Haaland limped off the field Sunday, “He isn’t

injured,” the coach added.

SPEAKING OF MAN CITY … the EPL via an independent

commission has found the franchise guilty of over-paying

players beyond league restrictions – and lying about it. Still to

be determined is what the league’s penalties will be. City faces

potential exclusion from the world’s best soccer league, top to

bottom.

Ironically, it led the league with a perfect 4-0-0

record at the three-week international break which ended this

weekend.

THE USMNT team is at it again, likely raising false hope for

the next World Cup four years from now. The Americans went

4-0 in a recent string of friendlies … including shutouts of

Mexico (3-0 in Glendale, Arizona) and Canada (1-0 in St. Paul,

Minnesota) … What made results even more intriguing was

coach MAURICO POCHETTINO’s lineups of primarily

newcomers including eight teenagers among them CAVAN

SULLIVAN, 16, the youngest player in USMNT team history.

There has been nothing friendly about the Dems’ latest bid

to regain Congress from Trump’s control. We’re not talking

about the candidates, some of whom are scary with their

hardly-disguised dislike of this country and everything it

stands for, but the media, most of whom have stopped

pretending they offer balanced coverage especially when it

comes to Trump … who didn’t ban some, if not all, of the

networks because they didn’t agree with him. That would

have been clearly in violation of free speech.

No, what finally got to be too much to be ignored was they

allowed their hatred of the man to consistently – and

therefor deliberately -- mislead the public … which IS, by

any definition, contrary to the First Amendment. The

wonder was, he put up with it as long as he did WITHOUT

doing something about it

BRIEFLY TOLD … MIKE DITKA, who coached the Chicago

Bears to their only NFL championship (1985) after setting

records as a tight end for the same franchise, died this week. He

was 87. Known as a tough, no-nonsense player and coach,

Dikta also had a soft side, said his former NFL-on-NBC partner

JIM GRAY, who was very emotional talking about the first

tight end to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame

(1988). “I will miss him … a lot,” Gray said.

The New York Rangers lost their mealticket for the season

Friday night when goaltender IGOR SHESTERKIN suffered

a serious injury in the second period in Washington … when he

slipped (untouched) and, right leg extended, collided skates-

first with the right post. He had to be helped from the ice …

with the score 1-1 in a game the Capitals won 3-1.
