NOW, WHAT DO CAVALIERS DO FOR AN ENCORE?
Lots of Stuff:
Let’s hear it for Virginia’s Cavaliers, especially coach
TONY ELLIOTT, QB CARTER MORRIS and a
defense that would have made late coach GEORGE
WELSH proud.
I know, I know … the schedule wasn’t the toughest, and
like the Washington Commanders of a season ago they
somehow managed to win toss-up games that could have
gone either way … but fact is, they did DESPITE (it says
here) doing some really strange things, most of which
backfired, on offense.
Now, if the NCAA will grant Morris another year (as it
should), with some more good fortune courtesy of the
Transfer Portal, maybe … just maybe, the Cavs won’t
advance in the opposite direction and, like the Team
Formerly Known as Redskins did in 2025, return to form
in 2026.
A school-record 11 victories was nice … an ACC
championship would be nicer.
**** The ECHL players’ union ended its strike late
Saturday night but a new Collective Bargaining
Agreement with owners still must be ratified (officially),
and play isn’t expected to resume until New Year’s Eve
(Wednesday night).
Details regarding the new contract will be announced at
“the appropriate time,” according to a league press
release. Whatever that means.
The strike, called by the Professional Hockey Players
Association, began Dec. 26.
The National Hockey League averted a potential strike
earlier this year when the NHLPA and owners agreed to a
new four-year CBA through the 2029-30 campaign
**** The NFL Patriots’ DRAKE MAY was 19 of 21 for
256 yards and five touchdowns Sunday (Dec. 28) against
the New York Jets ...and Fox sideline airhead KRISTINA
PINK said to him: “What a performance … FOUR
touchdown passes and an incompletion … [Maye did a
slow double-take but resisted the temptation to correct
her.)
She didn’t have a clue.
“When you are that efficient, tell me, what does it feel like
out there?” Pink went on, setting perhaps a new outdoor
record for shallowness combined with misinformation.
Give that girl a raise!
Better Pink should have said something snarky, like uhh
… “Tell me, Drake, how you managed to toss two
incompletions against a terrible team like that?”
**** Eagles’ COOPER DeJEAN, six tackles in
Sunday’s 13-12 victory over Buffalo, is named player of
the game … and TOMBRADY, who worked the game
for Fox, wanted to know about his versatility.
“Is there anything you can’t do?” the six-time Super
Bowl-winning QB asked.
Without hesitating, DeJean said, ‘Well, if I think long
enough, I’m sure I can come up with something.”
From Sioux Falls, South Dakota and the University of
Iowa, where he was 2023 unanimous All-American as a defensive back, DeJean was the 40th overall selection in
the 2024 NFL draft by the Eagles and had a breakout
game as a rookie in the Super Bowl, returning an INT 38
yards for a touchdown.
This year DeJean had four tackles and as many pass
breakups (among other things) in a 28-17 victory over
your Washington Commanders to be named NFC
Defensive Player of Week 16.
Question: Would you rather see the NFL with a dominant
team (or two, even three), or do you prefer parity, which
we seem to have now, like it or not? Just asking.
Until next time ...
