A LITTLE ON A LOT...LIKE SABRES CONTINUE TO SNUB RICHMONDER
Briefly told:
Boy, were the Big 10 officials who worked Saturday’s
Pop Tarts Bowl game horrible, or what? … especially
when it came to clear and unmistakable pass interference
which, with few exceptions, they simply refused to call.
**** Maybe it is time for Clemson to kiss football coach
DABO SWINNEY good-bye after all.
**** ZAC JONES update: The 25 year old defenseman
from Richmond has two goals and 27 assists in 25 games
to lead AHL Rochester in scoring (29 points) and the
league in assists. Going into Saturday’s games, he was
tied for sixth in points overall. The nearest defenseman
was 51st … and Jones was among seven at his position
among the top 100.
Nevertheless, the parent Buffalo Sabres haven’t used him
… and no one has asked why. Latest snub came Saturday
when RASMUS DAHLIN was sidelined for “personal
reasons” … and RYAN JOHNSON (9 assists, 11 points
in 29 games) was summoned from Rochester to replace
him. Like Jones, Dahlin and Johnson are left-handed
defensemen.
The Sabres’ captain, Dahlin returned to Sweden for the
second time this season to be with his fiance, who is
recovering from heart-transplant surgery.
Here’s a suggestion: With ADAM FOX sidelined
indefinitely, the New York Rangers make a deal for Jones,
who proved more than adequate running the power play
when the 2022 Norris Trophy winner was injured off and
on the past two years.
Jones signed with Buffalo as a free agent last summer
after spending the first five years as a pro with the
Rangers.
**** The Toronto Maple Leafs dumped MARC
SAVARD for STEVE SULLIVAN … as though an
exchange of assistant coaches would snap the NHL
team’s dreadful, depressing, deplorable play. Talk about
disappointing!
And ,,, dumb.
**** I don’t know about you, but it says here these
players who bail on their teammates to keep from getting
hurt and protect their investment in themselves as
potential big-league pros should be called out for their
selfishness.
That most bowl games have become unnecessary and no
longer a big deal they once were is beside the point. For
most athletes this will be the end of the road, and they
deserve better from teammates who wouldn’t be where
they are without them.
Oh, did we mention JA’MARI TAYLOR, who led
Virginia in rushing after the Cavaliers plucked him from
the transfer portal, decided to save himself and not appear
in last night’s Gator Bowl?
A BIG boo to you.
**** KYLE WHITTINGHAM, 66, who resigned as
coach at Utah after 21 years (ostensibly to retire), now is
said to be next coach at Michigan, which has had all sorts
of trouble replacing SHERRONE MOORE (fired).
None of the insiders I saw mentioned him in their classic
if misinformed looks at whom the Wolverines were
considering … and there was a big bunch, from
Alabama’s PETER DeBOER to UVA’s TONY
ELLIOTT.
Until next time ...
