IT DIDN'T SEEM SO AT THE TIME BUT VIRGINIA'S ELLIOTT WAS RIGHT ABOUT TRANSFER QB

Thoughts While Thinking … about a wild, wacky weekend that was ... I know, I know … it was difficult getting excited over  Virginia landing a transfer quarterback from   North Texas  State   … even if coach  TONY  ELLIOTT  knew (and  vouched for) him. The Cavaliers   would regret letting   ANTHONY  COLANDREA  get  away to UNLV where  he’s been very good. Friday night Elliott had every reason to say  I TOLD YOU  SO . Instead, amidst the chaos of fans doing what win- starved fans do, charging the field and blanketing it in a  tight, wall-to-wall fashion never before seen there, he was  asked by ESPN’s  KRIS BUDDEN  why the Cavs upset  No. 8 Florida State, and Elliott didn’t hesitate … pointing  to QB  CHANDLER MORRIS . “This man, right here,”  Elliott said. On a night when little went wrong for the home team, he  certainly got that right, too. While FSU’s ...

COME ON, VIRGINIA TECH, HERE'S A GREAT COACH IN WAITING

A little on a LOT ... Hey, Virginia Tech, here’s a suggestion for a football  coach to replace  BRENT PRY  (0-3, fired). I know, I  know it’s far out but how about Randolph-Macon’s   PEDRO ARRUZA  … who really cares about his  players … and is a winner – unlike anyone since (or  actually before)  FRANK BEAMER ? On second thought, never mind. He wouldn’t be  interested, would he? The Hokies apparently are going all in to keep up with the  current big 3 of the ACC: Florida State, Miami and  Clemson. They hope to increase the athletic budget, now  said to be $144M, to $229M, with football and basketball  (men’s and women’s) biggest beneficiaries. Plans include hiring a  general manager  for football.  BRUCE ARIANS , anyone? Now, all Tech has to do is convince its big spenders to  spend even more … which may not be easy considering  athletes can come and go with such regularity that there is ...

FORTUNATELY FOX WAS WRONG ... NO MASS EXODUS IN HOKIEVILE

The day before Virginia Tech fired football coach   BRENT PRY , Fox Sports on SiriusXM decided the  0-3 Hokies better wait at least one more game … or  there might be a mass walkout to keep from losing a  year’s eligibility before moving on to another  program. To date only corner back  DANTE LOVETT  has  made it official … ESPN identified DL  KEMARI  COPELAND  and WR  AYDEN GREENE  as likely  possibilities, which didn’t make any friends for the  World Wide Leader in Blacksburg. So who will replace 14-26 Pry in Hokieville?   SHANE BEAMER ? Unlikely … now that he’s  running a successful SEC program at South Carolina  and signed a new contract. James Madison’s  BOB  CHESNEY  has been mentioned. I would have said give his predecessor in  Harrisonburg anything he wants … but  CURT  CIGNETTI  continued to distance himself Saturday  when 19th-ranked Indiana ...
