OKLAHOMA TRANSFER LEAVES WHEN ODOM LANDS BYU POINT GUARD
What else can I tell you? Other than …
New U.Va., basketball coach RYAN ODOM loaded
up on point guards. Now, one of them, Oklahoma
transfer DUKE MILES, has decided he doesn’t
want to compete with freshman 4-star recruit
CHANCE MALLORY and DALLIN HALL, who
arrived via the transfer portal from Brigham Young
… and led to Miles’ decision to go elsewhere. You
don’t think that’s what Odom had in mind when he
signed Hall, do you?
At 6-4, a junior with two years eligibility remaining,
Hall sounds an awful lot like MAX SHULGA, the
point guard who came from Utah State with Odom to
VCU two years ago and led the Rams to a 28-7
record in 2024-25 when they claimed both the A-10
regular-season and tournament … Mallory, 5-10,
from Charlottesville’s St. Annes, Belfield private
school re-committed to Virginia when Odom was
hired, saying how much he liked the VCU staff …
which was the first to recruit him.
Speaking of which … most of Odom’s assistants
have followed him from UNBC to Utah State to
VCU to Hooville … Now there’s some question
about former Cavalier assistants KYLE GUY and
ISAIAH WILKINS whether or not either one or
both were asked to stay … which has resulted in
some unbecoming (certainly unnecessary) bickering
between a couple of Wahoo insiders.
NICO IAMALEAVA … Remember the name. He’s
the Tennessee, University of, quarterback who
skipped practice Friday because he didn’t like the
way NIL negotiations were going. The Volunteers
are said to be offering $2.4 million (according to
ESPN) … while he apparently thinks he’s worth
more than his $3.1 million evaluation … after
leading the Volunteers to No. 9 in the final Top 25
poll. All together now: BOOOOO!!
NO MENTION OF NFL Patriots’ owner ROBERT
KRAFTin BILL BELICHICK’s book, “The Ar of
Winning,” scheduled to be released early next
month. None, nada … not one, according to those
who have seen the manuscript. Talk about the sounds
of silence telling volumes about their breakup (in
2024) after 24 years… which was suspected to be
less than cordial.
Until next time ...
