BUNCH OF STUFF (HOCKEY, FOOTBALL, AUTO RACING)

So, the current playoffs aren’t in play when considering the NHL’s best-of-the-season … which helps to explain why Winnipeg’s CONNOR HELIBUYCK is among the Top 3 finalists for goaltender-of-the-year while Washington’s LOGAN THOMPSON is not … Once again the Jets goalie has been as shaky in post-season play as he was brilliant as the Jets claimed the Presidents Trophy which goes to the team with the best regular-season record … Other finalists: Tampa Bay’s ANDREI VASILEVSKIY and LA’s DARCY KEUMPER, who went to the West Coast in a one-for-one deal for Thompson … revitalizing both careers … Although all

emphasis on the Capitals’ surprising dominance of the

East Conference has gone to ALEXANDER

OVECHKIN becoming the league’s all-time leader of

goals scored, without Thompson Washington was just

another team.

Add BOBBY HOLIK to the NHL Rangers’ search for a

new coach.

So, how did your Washington Commanders do in the

NFL draft? Well, the Associated Press gave them a B plus

… which sounds pretty good until you consider 23 teams

in all got B’s … including nine with B plus – Seattle,

New York Football Giants, Denver, Cleveland, . Buffalo,

Baltimore, Atlanta and Miami as well as The Team

Formerly Known as Redskins … Top grade A plus went

to … sorry, none was seen worthy … Jacksonville,

Kansas City and the Las Vegas Raiders (of all teams) got

co-high A while the Rams and Buccaneers were A minus

… New Orleans was 32d and last with a C plus because?

The writer didn’t like the Saints passing on SHEDEUR

SANDERS … “and made TYLER SLOUGH

(40thoverall) the third QB selected earlier than

expected.”

Last year we really liked BO NIX, the Oregon QB who

wound up in Denver and had a better year than most

experts predicted ...This year we really like CAMERON

SKATTEBO, running back from Arizona State taken

105th by the Football Giants.

Once again we were reminded why NASCAR lost its

appeal to so many old-time fans … when the runnerup

and fifth-place finisher were disqualified in post-race

inspection Sunday at Talladega for, respectively, having

too many spoiler shims, three instead of two, and missing

a spoiler bolt. Oh, no … say it isn’t so.

Until next time ...
