WANTED TO REPLACE DRISCOLL ... SOMONE EXACTLY LIKE DRISCOLL

Of all things … briefly told (at least that’s the goal):

If you’ve got lots of energy, have a gift of gab, are a

people person and fund-raising is your idea of a

good time … then check it out. The Virginia State

Sports Hall of Fame is calling your name …

Executive director WILL DRISCOLL has

resigned after eight fun-filled years to join LifeNet

Health, a Virginia Beach-based company that

locates organ transplants for people in need ... But,

before the Hall names a replacement, there are a

number of questions to be answered … such as:

should the headquarters be moved, from Virginia

Beach to, say, Henrico County? … which seems to

be the prevailing opinion. Oh … and uh … can the

Hall count on the General Assembly to come up

with the funds needed long-term to keep it from

going under? … To the latter Driscoll, ever the

optimist, gives a resounding “YES.” At the same

time he wants everyone, most of all worthy

candidates for the position, to understand why he’s

leaving, effective March 1. “I know you are not

going to believe this,” Driscoll said, “but it has

nothing to do with the struggles we are going

through … and has everything to do with

something that was an opportunity too good to turn

down.”

Driscoll isn’t abandoning the state HoF. He’s

remaining as a member of the board and will be

point man for the 2025 induction ceremony

April 26 at The Westin Virginia Beach. This

year’s class of inductees includes TV basketball

analyst DAN BONNER, a resident of

Waynesboro and U.Va., alumnus who played

hoops as an undergraduate and later coached

the women’s team … The 2026 and 2027

induction weekends will be celebrated at the

new Henrico Events and Sports Center on the

north side … where the 2024 ceremony was

held for the first time outside of the Hampton

Roads/Tidewater area … all part of Driscoll’s

plan to bring the Hall to all parts of the state

and drum up interest.

-------  So … a Hanover County official accuses The

Times-Dispatch of bad journalism because … the

supervisors (board of) weren’t given enough time to get

their stories straight regarding the suspension of the

high school baseball team? Get serious! … To think

they redacted practically all results of an investigation

into what apparently was a hazing incident (incidents?)

likewise leaves the Freedom of Information Act just

about worthless, a joke … that is no laughing matter …

What a waste! Sooner or later someone with direct

knowledge of what went down will fess up to set the

record straight. It is always better to get out in front of

misleading information and/or gossip … Meanwhile, the

county looks foolish … especially, it says here, hiring an

outside source – seemingly learning on the job – to

handle the inquiry and presumably make a

recommendation … at an outrageous price.

------- Raise your hand if you believe …

..  VIC FANGIO, Philadephia Eagles’ defensive

coordinator, did not call one blitz in Sunday’s 40-22

Super Bowl romp over Kansas City … OK, so who

did?

.. This country’s 17-under soccer team should be

very proud of itself, punishing the Virgin Islands

22-0. One player scored 10 goals, which was bad

enough, except he had three of them in the second

half. U.S., reserves accounted for two goals … I

know, I know … the coach will say something

nutty like he couldn’t, in good conscience, tell his

hard-working athletes not to do their best … that it

was their opponents who should be criticized … for

not doing better. Yeh, right!

Until next time ...
