The score was tied (with time running out in overtime) when 

Huskies’ LIAM McNEELY went over the back of a 

Memphis defender to grab a rebound and apparently score 

the go-ahead basket … But, after it was negated and a foul 

charged to McNeely instead, we see Hurley having to be 

restrained by an assistant after telling the nearest official 

“you’re a f---ing joke” … and being hit with a technical … 

that Memphis converted (both ends) for what proved to be 

the final margin ... It was the first setback of the season for 

the two-time (back-to-back) national champions … who 

would go 0-3 in the holiday tournament in Hawaii … with 

Hurley continuing to criticize the officiating.

for Kansas, was ejected after kicking Duke’s MALIQ

VATECH HOOPS SIGNED A GOOD ONE ... AND THAT'S AS SINCERE AS IT GETS

Frankly, I haven’t kept up with Virginia Tech  basketball … so I’m not sure why the Hokies are  having a down season … but one thing is for sure: they made a great choice in signing Churchland High  School’s  SINCERE JONES  for the class of 2025 …  I know, I know … being virtually unstoppable in  high school doesn’t necessarily translate into  undergraduate phenom or, for that matter, four-year  starter. Still, based on what he did Tuesday night,  virtually a one-man gang against Atlee High in the  quarterfinals of the state tournament, Jones qualifies  as the real deal.   Thoughts while thinking … Which was more pathetic … Pittsburgh (University of)  coach  PAT NARDUZZI ’s decision to kick a game- tying field goal with his team on the Toledo one yard  line … or … his explanation for not going for the win  in the second overtime of last week’s Game/Above  Sports Bowl? … The favored Panthers of the mighty  ACC lost 49-46 in six OTs to the mid-major Mid- American Conference Rockets … and Narduzzi would  have been better off with “no comment” or, better yet,  “I goofed.” … Instead, he said, “Fourth and one … If  you don’t get it, you lose [and] I don’t want it to end  like that.
