WIDE RECEIVER HAD TO GO ... WHY DID IT TAKE SO LONG?

Of all things (Commanders, Colonial Downs, and ACC):

It was about time the Washington football team dumped

receiver JAHAN DOTSON. You couldn’t help but notice,

even from TV replays, that the former No. 1 draft pick

(2022) from Penn State oftentimes ran the wrong routes.

Otherwise, how to explain Dotson being in the same passing

lane as a teammate, thereby putting more pressure on the

quarterback while making the play easier to defend? …

Worse, he tended to loaf when his number wasn’t called in

the huddle … and he wasn’t known for sparkling open-field

blocking either ... Also, Dotson is one of those wideouts

who makes difficult catches look easy but lacks required

concentration on routine receptions and therefore drops too

many … Sending Dotson to a divisional rival, usually a no-

no, is another indication the Commanders believe he is too

flawed to really hurt them.

....... Come on … let’s hear it for Colonial Downs, the

parimutuel

race track “in the middle of nowhere” between Richmond

and Williamsburg. Friday, FanDuel Channel (Comcast 718)

gave viewers – especially those not familiar with the New

Kent County layout -- one of those (cliché alert) eat your

heart out shots of the course basking in sunlight.

....... A bad idea … courtesy of the General Assembly which

is

trying to lump all sports wagering under something called

the “Virginia Gambling Commission.” … Actually, it’s a

very bad idea when it comes to horse racing. Why? Because

it would remove the Rosie’s betting emporiums from

regulation by the Virginia Racing Commission … and

thereby allow the politicians an opportunity to raid the very

profits that have been so instrumental in growing racing here

– not to mention a marked upgrade in the state’s equine

industry … You don’t think they would do that, do you?

Otherwise why remove slot-machine revenue from control

of the VRC? … So a study by a joint subcommittee of the

assembly (with the goal a pre-determined outcome) said the

racing commission doesn’t have the staffing to do a proper

job … Come on! No complaints were forthcoming, were

they? … It says here that, while some sort of a gambling

agency apparently is needed, it would have enough to do

without lousing up horse racing … which the politicos who

don’t know an allowance from an exacta most assuredly

would do.

Then again … Churchill Downs, Inc., which bought

Colonial and Rosie’s in late 2022, caught Henrico County

with its regulations down … and state reps have expressed

their displeasure misguided though it might be …

demanding CDI re-apply for a Rosie’s license that was

obtained legally … but clearly won’t be accepted for the

same location. And, as best as can be determined, Churchill

Downs has not responded. How dare they? … Chances are

the reps from Henrico would happily vote for

something/anything that would hurt CDI whose reps from

Louisville … at hearings about the proposed gaming

commission … have been described as arrogant.

....... A lone voice in the wilderness … from CBS says not to

be

surprised if ESPN does not renew its contract with the

Atlantic Coast Conference in 2026. Maybe, maybe not …

but it will be surprising if the network doesn’t play low ball

with the ACC, which no longer operates from strength.

Until next time ...
