LITTLE CHATA OF DISA AND DATA
Oh no …another ROBERT GRIFFIN III … not AGAIN?
What was the rap against MALIK WASHINGTON …
because he played for traditional non-powers Northwestern and
U.Va.? Best receiver after the reception we saw in 2023 …
including MARVIN HARRISON JR., over-rated because of
blood line … In his only season in Hooville, Washington set a
school record with 1,426 yards receiving on 110 catches, 43
more than Harrison Jr. (whatever that means).
In this world of anything goes … another chapter, another.
verse … A suit has been filed in Queens (N.Y.) court against the
NCAA on behalf of two St. John’s basketball players seeking a
fifth year of eligibility … Transfers from Ivy League schools,
they argue the Ivies got an extra year because of restrictions
caused by the pandemic … so they should as well ...Wanna bet
they get it, too
Not that we are surprised but … officiating in the National
Hockey League has gotten so bad the players hardly blink any
more when an obvious call is missed … The referees are more
interested in makeup calls, it seems. They aren’t about to call
‘em as they see ‘em .. and what, send one team to the penalty
box more than the other? How dare they? … especially during
the Stanley Cup playoffs … In Game 3 of the Rangers/Capitals
best-of-seven first round mismatch Friday night in D.C., New
York’s KAAPO KAKKO speared (lightly) a Capital from
behind, setting off a spirited multi-player scrum late in the
second period. When order was restored, Washington’s NICK
DOWD had a double-minor for roughing D’ANDRE
MILLER, who got only two minutes … giving the Rangers
their Caps-matching fifth power play. Kakko got nothing.
Guess with all the extra-curricular stuff, the refs forgot who
started the whole thing, eh? … Surprise! Surprise! Both teams
had six power plays … after Washington’s BECK
MALENSTYN was detected holding Miller with fewer than
four minutes to. Check the replay: Miller grabs then knocks
Malenstyn off his skates. The Cap rookie then reaches out,
while on the ice, and has Miller join him. Ridiculous! Play on.
At first we thought he was just worn out from a long, pressure-
filled regular season that got off to a terrible start, but … it’s
more than that. There’s something definitely wrong with ALEX
OVECHKIN … like a serious injury – shoulder, perhaps -- that
has left the Washington super-star a non-factor in the first
round. The Great 8 had only one shot on goal in the first two
games … and through three games still hadn’t unloaded one of
his heavy, hard, lethal slap shots … Either RICK
TOCCHET(Vancouver) or CHRIS KNOBLAUCH
(Edmonton) will be NHL coach of year … but, tell me, who
has done a better job than the Caps’ SPENCER CARBERY?
In his first year … after much success with AHL Hershey
followed by two seasons as assistant coach with NHL Toronto
… he took a team to the playoffs with a record minus 37 …
without solid goaltending until CHARLIE LINDGREN
replaced DARCY KUEMPER down the stretch … and key
injuries. Under-talented, the Caps have outworked President’s
Cup-winning New York but probably will be swept in four
games, nevertheless.
Until next time ...
