JUST STUFF: FROM JORDAN, TO JONAS, JUSTIN, JIMMY, JACOBY AND JAMEIS
Oh, no … say it isn’t so … Playing partners JORDAN
SPEITH and VIKTOR HOVLAND questioned RORY
MCELROY’S choice of drops after twice putting t-shots into
water at The Players opening round Thursday (March 14).
They accented their concern by not appearing at the daily
press conference … although being way, way down the
leaderboard might have had something to do with it, too.
McElroy responded by tying the tournament record for birdies
in a round and finished with a 65 … for a three-way tie for
first.
Now it develops NHL New Jersey’s JONAS
SIEGENTHALER will be sidelined indefinitely with a
concussion … courtesy of an elbow to the head by Rangers’
MATT REMPE. Four-game suspension suddenly doesn’t
look like enough … Gotta love Big Apple’s cheerleading
media … who suggested Rempe made contact because – you
ready for this? -- he was trying to pull up from crashing full-
speed into the boards. Take another look: The 21 year old kid
had the Devils’ defenseman lined up in his sights all along. If
anything, the monster (6-8 ½, 241 pounds) rookie went from
Plan A (laying waste to him with a full-body hit) to Plan B
(knocking his head off). Fortunately, Rempe’s errant aim
resulted in a glancing but, nevertheless, damaging blow.
On The NFL Network, the burning question of the day was: \
“Should the Patriots trade for JUSTIN FIELDS … and draft
MARVIN HARRISON JR., third overall?” … Why not sign
(re-sign?) JIMMY GARAPPOLO, released by the Raiders
after being suspended two games next season for using a
performance enhancing drug? Don’t they all? … Don’t forget:
Jimmy G had one outstanding season in New England while
TOM BRADY was sidelined by injury. And, franchise owner
ROBERT KRAFT wasn’t pleased when the Pats shipped
Garappolo to the 49ers, now was he? … On second thought
… never mind. New England already has a new backup QB,
having signed former Washington Football Team No. 2,
JACOBY BRISSETT … Jimmy G-to-Saints appears most
logical, now that JAMEIS WINSTON left for the Browns to
back up the $230M-guaranteed man DESHAUN
WATSON… and New Orleans No. 1 is … DEREK CARR.
Ouch!
Let’s see … the Commanders sign never-was MARCUS
MARIOTTA“to mentor quarterback to be determined later,”
who consensus says will be DRAKE MAYE … then trade
SAM HOWELL (to Seattle), who preceded Maye at North
Carolina. Makes sense to me.
Better they trade down from No. 2 … fortify their O-Line
(which didn’t do Howell any favors in 2023) … and still get a
young QB (preferably BO NIX).
I know, I know … nobody’s asking … nobody cares … but I
would have kept Howell. If new OC CLIFF KINGSBURY
can make them forget hot-shot predecessor ERIC
BIENEIMY – he better – then why deal Howell? He showed
considerable promise despite lack of protection and a bunch of
over-rated wideouts who, pouting perhaps, didn’t always run
prescribed routes when they didn’t think they would get the
ball.
Then, again, what do I know? I’m just a kid.
Until next time ...
