BUDDY COUSINS: RTD HAS JOINED "DARK SIDE"

By Buddy Cousins

If you read the RTD sports section closely, you've seen over the past year, they’ve had

more grammar and technical errors than I made in high school. I was, at best, a solid

 “C”.

I don’t know the “Metrics” of the RTD, but I’d wager that a large percentage of its

readers enjoyed the sports because they used to keep fans of the “Old Redskins”

informed. Then management fired the man who was the state's top sports editor in

addition to being “Beat Writer” on the team and, with that bungle, so went our ties with

 Ashburn.

Also, it appears the proletariat has seen fit to remove the sports staff's e-mail addresses

from their articles to shelter them from their readers and critics. Why? I know for a FACT

sports writers don’t handle criticism very well.

Remember Paul Woody? He was big into bikes. NO! Not Hell’s Angels Harleys ...

 Agee’s Schwinns ...

I guess it was more than five years ago that Woody hyped the world cycling

championships -- or such -- that was coming to RVA. He wrote of the tremendous

financial boom it would have on the economy.

The race was a complete dud.

All the millions of dollars he’d written about becoming a windfall to the region never

materialized. Instead, it turned out to be a sinkhole. A total and complete flop.

There was NO written news of the collapse,  and ... NO response to criticism from his

readers.

Now, the RTD wants to further distance its staff from its readers. Isn’t that the same

approach that dictators and corrupt governments have taken over the years?

Perhaps the RTD will join the “Dark Web.” And we’ll be asked to check off the block, “I

AM NOT A ROBOT,” before we can read the local sports news.
