FOX OUT, Z JONES IN ... 'WORLD'S GREATEST' WINS

Lots of stuff ... With the March 7 NHL trade deadline rapidly  approaching … your New York Rangers are in disarray  … Defenseman  ADAM FOX  suffered what is thought to  be a dislocated shoulder in the third period of Tuesday’s  5-1 victory over the New York Islanders and has been put  on Injured Reserve … for how long no one could/would  say, but don’t be surprised if he doesn’t return until the  playoffs (if at all). That is assuming the Broadway  Blueshirts reach post-season play … They go into Friday  night’s home game with Toronto two points removed  from the second (and last) at-large playoff position. Also injured (allegedly) against the Islanders was  defenseman  K’ANDRE MILLER , who left after two  shifts in the second period and didn’t return … Say   allegedly  because no one (other than Miller) knows what  happened … The Rangers PR department called it a  “lower-body injury” a...

LAUGHLIN RECOVERY GOING WELL ... JONES TO AHL FOR 'CONDITIONING'

Hockey … Nothing But Hockey … HARRY FEUERSTEIN  reports long-time friend (and  former NHL standout)  CRAIG LAUGHLIN  is “doing  well” following open-heart surgery Feb. 4 … At least he  had time to prepare for it. Laughlin, 67, knew for quite a  while he had blockage in a left anterior artery as well as  a damaged bicuspid aortic valve that required repair ...  Feuerstein owned the ECHL Richmond Renegades, and  convinced Laughlin, having retired from the Washington  Capitals, to join him … for what proved the team’s glory  days … with a championship in 1994-95. It was the only  team to win it all in Richmond hockey history … from  the Robins (1971-76) to Renegades II (2006-09) and  also included the Wildcats (1976-77), Rifles (1979-81),  and RiverDogs (2003-06) … Renegades I came close  again in 1998-99, leading Mississippi, three games to  one, in the finals … before dropping Game 7 in overt...

FROM CUP MANIACS ... TO 'BIG AL' COMPLIMENT ,,, AND MORE

Thoughts while thinking … Here’s hoping NASCAR keeps its insurance  paid up … because? Somebody is going to get  killed, the way the Cup maniacs are driving …  or did you miss the end of Sunday’s Daytona  500? WILIAM BYRON , running ninth on the final  lap and winning … is like … I’m thinking, I’m  thinking ... like ... There will never be another  “BIG AL”  COLEMAN , which is a compliment. Still, I  found it curious one thing that drove him to  retirement was the upheaval in college football  and basketball … when he was such a fan of  The Team Formerly Known as Redskins that  you seldom felt he cared, much less could  speak passionately, about anything else. Speaking of The Washington Football Team …  in case you missed it, new ownership vetoed  any possibility of dumping  Commanders  and  going back to  Redskins  … despite urging from  several groups among them Native ...

THE BUILDING WAS ON FIRE

Now, that’s hockey … USA vs Canada, 4 Nations tournament, Montreal’s Bell Centre: three fights in the first nine seconds … Tkachuks 2-Home Team 0. “I’ve never seen a start like that … in any league, on any platform, at any event,” said ESPN studio’s  PK SUBBAN , retired NHL defenseman and tough guy ... “The building was on fire,” said host  STEVE LEVY  … starting with the sellout crowd booing the Star Spangled Banner (start to finish) after being asked to treat everyone with respect by the public address announcer … So, tell us,  BRADEY TKACHUK , what’s the back story? How did this develop? “It just happened pretty organically,” the Ottawa Senators’ forward said between periods when … STOP THE PRESSES! …  EMILY KAPLAN actually asked good questions. (If she isn’t careful, she’ll be drummed out of the sisterhood.) One second in, Matthew T, as planned, dropped the  gloves with  BRENDAN HAGEL  Then, on the ensuing  faceoff, Bradey T had a ...
