PROBABLY A GOOD THING KICKERS-CHARLOTTE GAME HAD NO PLAYOFF IMPLICATIONS

Weekend Watch II … with III (and more) to come: Your Richmond Kickers played their regular-season  USL League One finale Saturday night already  assured of finishing eighth. Win, lose or draw against  sixth-place Charlotte, they knew they would take on  No. l United Omaha in the playoffs … and it  undoubtedly was a good thing the last of 22 games  didn’t matter … or no telling what might have  happened … none of it good, that’s for sure …  Charlotte’s 1-0 victory ended its seven-game non- winning streak as well as Richmond’s run of six  games without a loss … on “Fan Appreciation  Night” at City Stadium where more than 5,000  customers were eligible for numerous giveaways ... and left thinking the home side had this one taken  away by referee  JOHN MATTO  … For all the calls  and non-calls that drew never-ending complaints  from both sides, the centerpiece of it all came in the  41 st  minute when ...

DANIELS COMPLETES 'HAIL MARY,' THANKS GOD. WHO ELSE?

Weekend Watch I … with II and III to follow: Way to go,  JAYDEN DANIELS  ... way to go. You’re only a  rookie, having played exactly eight games in the National  Football League. Now tell me, what can you possibly do for  an encore after Sunday’s Hail Mary heroics to win a game  your Washington Commanders seemed destined to let slither  away? “ Once in a lifetime,” you called it. Can’t get much better  than that, now can it? I mean, there had been some question  Daniels would even suit up, much less give another  performance worthy of player-of-the-year consideration …  having suffered damage to his ribs a week ago in a beatdown  of woeful Carolina. But there he was, removing all questions  about his health … scrambling for a first down and putting a  move on linebacker  T.J .  EDWARDS  in the process. The answer, of course, is to do it again and again … and the  way things have been going f...

ISN'T IT ABOUT TIME FOR Z JONES TO SAY HOW HE REALLY FEELS?

Briefly told … at least that’s the plan: Sooner or later  ZAC JONES  will have it up to here  with his shoddy treatment by the New York Rangers  and say what he really thinks. The time for his usual  “It is what it is” dodge is over … The left-handed  defenseman was a healthy scratch Thursday night for  the third straight game despite beginning the season  with a four-game plus 4 in the tell-tale plus-minus  category … and despite being paired with newcomer   VICTOR MANCINI  who has made his share of  rookie mistakes … By now Jones has to be fed up  with coach  PETER LAVIOLETTE  who a year ago  kept Jones out of uniform for 51 of 82 regular-season  games, a healthy scratch, Then, despite earning high  marks while replacing injured stars like  ADAM  FOX  and  JACOB TROUBA , the 24 year old  Richmonder from Glen Allen sat out the playoffs in  which New York, which...
